"Take Two!" is a fast word game for three or more people. Our Chaplain, Rex Whitta, is one of the many experts at this game within the OUCC membership. It tends to be played after supper, back at our Hotel or Hall of Residence.
The game is played with a set of Scrabble letters. The object is to use all your letters to create a crossword, having no letters left over at the end of play.
The letters are placed, face down, in the center of the table.
Each player takes five tiles; when all players are ready, they turn their letters face up.
Players simultaneously begin creating their crosswords. When a player has used up all their letters they shout "Take two"...
... all players must pick up two letters from the middle. This routine continues until there are no letters left.
If "Take Two" is simultaneously called by two players, it usually counted as a single call.
If all players are 'stuck' they can agree to "Take Two".
When the stock of tiles has gone, and as soon as a player has used up all his or her tiles, they shout "Done!". Otherwise, the end of the game is said to have been reached when no player can make any more words.
A player can decide to dismantle all or part of their crossword at any stage of the game if they are stuck, or if it will assist them to obtain a higher score.
Scoring
The letter values in each word are added. If a letter tile appears in two or more words its value is added that number of times. Losing players deduct the values of their unused letters. After a number of rounds, the player to reach a target agreed before play (say 500) is the winner.
